Day 8
Whew.
Well, it’s day 8 for me with no electricity, and it looks like I might be practicing my skills as a pioneer woman for several more days.
Honestly, today was a great day. I was able to enjoy simple pleasures - the best and hottest coffee and a hot shower!
It’s hard to believe it’s been 8 days since Helene tossed everything around.
I’m so grateful for the calls and texts I have received checking on me and my family.
It’s definitely been a wild ride.
Our home was not damaged during the storm. A limb tried to take out a fence and the hood of my car was dented from limbs. Our yard debris was the size of a truck, and we were so incredibly fortunate that was the extent of our damages.
Some of our neighbors didn’t fare as well. We have tried to help where we can.
Some people, and especially Western North Carolina, were hit brutally hard and will need support for a long time to come. I will work on sharing ways to productively support in the future.
Nothing prepares you for this kind of thing. I have been writing down thoughts each night, keeping tabs on what products and items have been most helpful to me in times like these, and rethinking how I would prepare for something like this in the future. As I work through some of that, I will likely share.
Helene left her mark on so many of us, and I know many of you are dealing with her aftermath, as well. My prayers are with you. 🙏
I am BEYOND grateful to have the sweetest friends! I have been on the receiving end of so much support, and am especially grateful for my sweet friend who whipped up a delicious home-cooked pasta dish and did some of my laundry!
I feel so blessed. It’s PEOPLE who make all the difference in times like these.
Your texts, calls, and emails have been so uplifting! Thank you!
School is out until Monday. I will let you know when I have power and internet back on. Fingers crossed, hoping it’s soon.
I hope you are well.
Take good care. 🤍
