BREAK FREE

Dear friends,

This weekend holds the full “flower moon” - blood moon - lunar eclipse.

If that sounds intense, it’s because eclipses can be powerful doorways to change. They open new doors and help close old ones. They can help usher in the changes that we may have been reluctant to make on our own, as well as things we are ready and willing to change.

So this is a quick note to encourage letting go and inviting positive change.

RELEASING OVERWHELM

Sometimes I see patterns with my clients, and over the past two weeks, I’m hearing a lot of this:

“I feel so overwhelmed and exhausted.”

Many of us have been caught up in a cultural pattern that is designed to keep people overworked and overtired.  It is a frustrating loop, and breaking-free from this cycle can feel impossible.

A recent client realized that she invests so much of her time and energy into other people’s projects, she has no time to truly care for and enjoy her life.  She feels frazzled, rushed, and absent-minded most days, and as she expressed her frustrations, I noticed she never made a positive statement about any aspect of her life.  Mostly, she felt guilty and ashamed for not being able to do it all perfectly.

That’s a lot of pressure.

My client isn't alone. She isn't the only one who feels like life could flow more, be more fulfilling, and feel more peaceful.

She is many of us.

Silent Pressures

There are silent pressures everywhere: real and artificial, at work and at home, in our world and in ourselves.

There are pressures to:

  • accomplish or meet goals

  • be a certain kind of parent, employee, child, sibling, (insert any other title)

  • eat or look a certain way

  • make or have a certain income

  • help hold other people’s lives together with perfection and ease.

This need to do it all and be it all is simply too much.

Besides, wearing too many hats doesn’t look good, anyway.

AT WHAT COST

What are the effects of that pressure?

It’s worth asking, what in your life is not getting the attention it deserves?

In your life, what’s being overlooked completely?

Are your routines contributing to your vitality, longevity, and happiness?

Are your thoughts and self-talk supportive or do they work against you?

DARE I ASK you?

What would happen if you weeded out all of the activities that aren't contributing positively to you and your experience? Who and what would change?

What would happen if you established a new routine that was created to meet your needs first (so you could then be even better for those around you)? What does your ideal routine look like?

What if you set boundaries that supported saying "no" to things you aren’t fully able or interested in committing to?  What would you say no to? What would you never do again?
