Summer Self-Care

Happy Summer… {almost}!

This weekend welcomes the Summer solstice, marking the official beginning of summer.

It also brings with it a solar eclipse known as a “ring of fire” eclipse. The sun will be dark with only the outer rim illuminated creating a fire ring around the sun. Although it will not be visible for many parts of the world (including North America), its impacts may still be felt worldwide.

{It’s also sure to inspire a few Johnny Cash fans to belt out “I fell into a burning ring of fire…”}

Historically, many ancient civilizations associated solar eclipses with political disruption, unrest, and major change. A few stories tell of truces, agreements, and positive changes, but all share a common theme of heightened energy.

Even the symbology feels intense considering the first day of summer brings darkness.

As 2020 continues to apply pressure, the effects are profound. During coaching sessions, “new stress” has certainly been an area of focus for clients.

There has never been a better time to ensure healthy self-care routines. Nurturing the mind, body, and healthy connections with others is an ideal way to directly address stress.

Stress hormones are produced when fear and uncertainty are present. When the mind perceives fear or stress, it signals the body to secrete very specific hormones. The effects of this, especially over time, are weight-gain, sluggishness, and not feeling optimally.

This is why calming the mind and not allowing fear and stress to dominate the thoughts is crucial.

The body is always taking direction from the mind, and the body is always listening to what you think and how you feel.

Here are a few links to resources that can help relieve stress, positively engage the senses, and help promote feeling more balanced during these intense times.
