hard times

Always running from what you don’t want,

it’s too hard to know what you do.

You can’t dream up a better way and pull the past along behind you…

Not after all you’ve been through.

Carrying the weight of yesterday,

today can never feel light.

The struggle feels long and lonely and takes all of your might -

Turns out, it’s the fight of your life.

Hard to soften a heart gone hard.

Need a miracle to clean up your mind.

The straight-road to heaven is paved with leaving these old hurts behind…

or hard times are all that you’ll find.

And somehow they know how to find you.

At times they pour in like a flood.

You know those hard times, seem to run in your blood.

See how they run through your blood.

You feel broken down and weary

Instead of fully alive.

Nothing is clear, your heart can’t see clearly looking through the lens of hard times.

My God, they’ve been really hard times.

You can wish to be someone else

because it’s too hard being you,

but no peace will you find in your searching, you must become someone new.

That’s the only thing you can do -

because hard times are a dark filter

that weigh heavy on a soul.

No matter your warmth for the world, they leave you feeling cold…

Alone, old, wanting someone to hold.

Relief doesn’t come cheap or easy.

No, it’s paid with the ultimate price.

It takes guts, grit, and gumption to live a better life

when loving feels like hard times.

It’s hard holding hope

when you’re holding hard times.

It’s time to let go of hard times.

HARD TIMES (first person)

Always running from what I don’t want,

it’s too hard to know what I do.

I can’t dream up a better way and drag the past behind me too…

Not after all I’ve been through.

Carrying the weight of yesterday,

today can never feel light.

The struggle feels long and lonely and takes all of my might -

Turns out, it’s the fight of my life.

Hard to soften a heart gone hard.

Need a miracle to clean up my mind.

The straight-road to heaven is paved with leaving these old hurts behind…

or hard times are all that I’ll find.

And somehow they know how to find me.

At times they pour in like a flood.

I know those hard times, seem to run in my blood.

See how they run through my blood.

I feel broken down and weary

Instead of fully alive.

Nothing is clear. My heart can’t see clearly looking through the lens of hard times.

My God, they’ve been really hard times.

I can wish to be someone else

because it’s too hard being me,

but no peace will I find in searching, it’s this truth I must come to see:

Changing is my only hope for being free -

because hard times are a dark filter

that weigh heavy on a soul.

No matter my warmth for the world, they leave me feeling cold…

Alone, old, wanting someone to hold.

Relief doesn’t come cheap or easy.

No, it’s paid with the ultimate price.

It takes guts, grit, and gumption to live a better life

when loving feels like hard times.

It’s hard holding hope

when I’m holding hard times.

It’s time to let go of hard times.
