WEAVING ALCHEMY

Lesson 1

“WRITE” Through It.

Not long ago, I found my old notebook from a teacher training course from many years back. We were tasked with constructing 8 short lessons to teach within a 10 minute timeframe over 8 weeks.

Many of my classmates taught wonderful and complex topics on all sorts of things. As students, we were taking a lot of information in 10 minute segments, but I wanted to take a different approach.

I taught short 1 minute lessons and provided the group 9 minutes to write in response. Each week, the topic was different, ranging from serious to silly.

The feedback was from the group was a clear indication that many of us are writers at heart. They loved the simplicity and the TIME to put pen to pad to consider their own words.

We learned a lot about each other in those 8 weeks.

So after hearing my third client last week say that they used to love writing but either had no time for it, or made no time for it, I decided to bring that short course to you here.

Perhaps it will inspire you to play more with your words.

I present, lesson one. ♡

5.7.5

Haiku is a form of Japanese poetry that has just three lines:

  • five syllables in the first line

  • seven syllables in the second line

  • five syllables in the third line.

Here is an example by Cassandra Jasmine:

FAMILY

A complex puzzle

unable to lose a piece,

always there for you.

What can be shared in just three brief lines?

It can be challenging to reduce an experience down to a few short words.

Are you up for the challenge?

Write a haiku using the prompt below, or create your own.

THE HAPPIEST I HAVE EVER BEEN…
