Dream Routine

Welcome to fall!

October is a blue moon month, meaning there are two full moons. October 1st and October 31st are both potent full moons, and what you do in the days between them will make all the difference in how you feel!

I know we love making things more cozy and waiting for the trees to change, but let’s face it, this October is likely to be an intense month. Political and social unrest might be a significant distraction this month as we edge closer to the US election.

As a Holistic Coach, I continue to see that social media has become a detriment to so many of us. The tools that once connected us now seem to divide us, and it’s up to us to manage the level of impact social media can have on our lives. I highly recommend watching the Netflix documentary, The Social Dilemma, which does an incredible job of proving that these tools were meant to prey on our minds and to manipulate our behaviors.

What can we do?

I wanted to offer four tips and one helpful tool to reclaim your power, time, and mental health from social media.

Managing Social Media:

  1. Move the Apps - Most people can blindly access their social media apps without even looking at their phones. The Facebook icon took up residence on your home screen, and never moved. Since your thumb has no problem accessing it quickly, and mindlessly, relocate the apps! Moving them to the second or third screen can disrupt the neurological habit you’ve created and challenge the mind to break that mindless connection.

  2. Get specific - Before going to your second or third home screen to find Instagram, ask yourself some questions: Why am I looking at this app? For how long will I look? What content am I seeking? This will help curb mindless, boredom scrolling. Did you know that DOOM SCROLLING is a real thing? Try this exercise if you’ve gotten into the habit of scrolling through negative information for long periods of time (courtesy of the Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology).

  3. For Goodness Sake - When you use your social apps, use them for good! Reach out to friends and family. Send quality messages and comments that are meant to uplift and feel good. If using social media still adds value to your life, be sure it is working for you - not against you.

  4. Time it - Time is your most valuable resource. Setting limits to create boundaries for your time can be a game-changer. Using a visual timer, like this one, can help with keeping on task and not getting lost in the virtual world. It’s an excellent tool to begin setting healthy habits for children and teens, as well.

Since time is such a big topic with clients, I created a resource to help you maximize it. There is often more time available than we realize, so this mini-workbook will help you map out your time, because consciously building healthy routines and habits is a fast-track to living a life that you are proud to wake up for each day.

Curate a Dream Routine:
